Case Study: Bellefield

CASE STUDY: Bishop Auckland, County Durham

The client:

The issue:

Ainscough Strategic Land appointed Paver Smith to lead a comprehensive community consultation around its proposals for a housing-led development in Bishop Auckland.

The objectives:

To engage residents, key politicians, council officers and stakeholders in the consultation process, generate feedback and raise awareness of the unique development opportunity afforded by the site.

Strategy:

Our strategy involved creating the Prince Bishops Park brand - an identifiable look and feel for the consultation and the proposed development site. This was supported by a dedicated website and communicated through a range of direct marketing collateral.

A combination of blanket (media relations, direct mail) and targeted (one to one briefings) tactics ensured a wide audience was reached. This led to a series of public events targeting specific groups including the site’s immediate neighbours, the near-by traveller community and the local primary school community. Meanwhile, open public exhibitions, forums and meetings ensured the views of the wider community were represented.

Written and anecdotal feedback was recorded at all events and through an online feedback portal. All exhibition materials were made available as downloads from the consultation website.

The results:

More than 200 people attended the consultation events, generating 58 substantial pieces of feedback from the local community. The consultation successfully garnered a high level of support for the proposals and identified specific issues which can be mitigated through the planning process.

Further consultation is now underway.
